Sizzling beef alla pizzaiola

Steak in savory tomato sauce - irresistible.
Ingredients:
  • 40.00 ml extra virgin olive
  • 4 x 100g eye fillet steaks
  • 1 brown onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 red capsicum, cut into 2cm pieces
  • 700g bottle passata cooking sauce
  • 40.00 ml finely chopped fresh oregano leaves
  • 100g mozzarella, sliced
  • Extra fresh oregano leaves, to serve
  • Ciabatta, to serve
Instructions:
  • In a large, heavy-based frying pan, heat half of the oil over medium-high heat until sizzling. Sear steak for 1 to 2 minutes on each side until nicely browned. Transfer to a plate and cover to stay warm.
  • Add the rest of the oil to the pan, then introduce the onion and cook until softened, around 5 minutes. Next, add the garlic and capsicum, cooking until tender, about 5 minutes more. Pour in the passata, bring it to a boil, then lower the heat to simmer gently for 5 to 6 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  • Mix in fragrant oregano and season with a touch of salt and pepper. Place the steak back in the pan and generously layer with mozzarella. Allow it to melt under a cover for 2 minutes. Finish by sprinkling with more oregano. Serve alongside some crispy ciabatta.
