Barbecue skillet burgers simmered in tangy tomato sauce with onions and lemons for a delicious twist on a classic.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce, divided
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 6 thin slices onion
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, or as needed
  • 6 thin slices lemon
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon mustard
Instructions:
  • Combine ground beef, 1 can of tomato sauce, egg, salt, and pepper in a bowl until well mixed. Shape mixture into 6 patties and garnish each with a slice of onion.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, sear burgers onion-side down until golden brown, about 3 to 5 minutes. Flip burgers, drain grease, and garnish each with a lemon slice.
  • Mix together the rest of the tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, chili powder, and mustard, then drizzle over the burgers. Cook covered until the burgers are done and the sauce is thickened, for at least 1 hour.
