Whip up delicious carne picada in a slow cooker for flavorful taco meat with minimal ingredients.
Ingredients:
  • 0.25 cup flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon sea salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1.5 pounds round steak, cut into strips
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 (10 ounce) cans diced tomatoes with green chiles (such as Rotel®)
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, mix together flour, paprika, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Coat the meat thoroughly in the flour mixture.
  • Start by heating olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the meat until browned on all sides, which should take about 5 minutes. If needed, sear the meat in batches. Once browned, remove the meat from the skillet. Next, add the onion to the skillet, scraping off all the browned bits. Sautè the onion until softened and translucent, which usually takes 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Combine meat, onions, and undrained diced tomatoes in a slow cooker. Cook on Low for 2-3 hours until meat is tender and flavors meld.
