Tender slow cooker pinto beans with savory ham in a flavorful broth. Simply soak beans overnight for easy prep!
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound dried pinto beans, soaked overnight
  • 1 pound Black Forest ham, cubed
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 0.75 medium green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 medium celery ribs, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano, or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lard
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin, or to taste
  • 2 large bay leaves
  • 5 cups chicken broth, or as needed to cover
Instructions:
  • In a spacious bowl, submerge beans in water and let soak for 8 hours or overnight. Then, drain.
  • Collect all the ingredients needed to create a delicious culinary masterpiece.
  • Combine soaked pinto beans, ham, onion, bell pepper, celery, garlic, oregano, lard, cumin, and bay leaves in a slow cooker. Ensure all ingredients are covered by pouring in chicken broth.
  • Cover all ingredients with chicken broth.
  • Cook on High until beans are extremely tender, 5 to 6 hours.
