Hearty split pea soup with bacon and hash browns cooked low and slow for a comforting meal.
Ingredients:
  • 0.25 pound bacon, chopped
  • 1 pound split peas, rinsed
  • 0.33333334326744 (20 ounce) package frozen southern-style hash brown potatoes (such as Ore Ida®)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 ribs celery, diced
  • 3 carrots, peeled and diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes, or more to taste
  • 8 cups chicken broth
Instructions:
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the bacon, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  • Combine the cooked bacon, split peas, hash brown potatoes, onion, celery, carrots, garlic, black pepper, and red pepper flakes in a slow cooker. Add chicken broth and mix well.
  • Slow cook for 8 hours on Low or 6 hours on High.
