Effortlessly delicious Slow-Cooker Split Pea Soup with ham. Let your slow cooker work its magic while you're away, returning to a comforting, ready-to-eat meal. Perfect for feeding a crowd and even tastier as leftovers!
Ingredients:
  • 7 cups water
  • 1 package (16 ounces) dried split peas (2 1/4 cups), sorted and rinsed
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 medium carrots, cut into 1/4-inch slices (1 1/2 cups)
  • 2 medium stalks celery, finely chopped (1 cup)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
  • 1 ham bone, 2 pounds ham shanks or 2 pounds smoked pork hocks
Instructions:
  • Generously coat the inside of a 4- to 5-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Combine all ingredients except for the ham, then gently mix together before adding the ham.
  • Allow the mixture to simmer gently on low heat for 8 to 10 hours, or until the peas have reached desired tenderness.
  • Take the ham out of the cooker and transfer it to a cutting board. Use 2 forks to pull the meat off the bones; discard the bones and skin. Mix the ham into the soup and stir well before serving.
