Tasty slow-cooker apple butter made with Gala apples, brown sugar, salt, and a cinnamon stick - perfect for gifts!
Ingredients:
  • 5 lb Gala apples
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cinnamon stick
Instructions:
  • Prepare the apples by peeling, coring, and slicing them. Then, using a food processor, grate the apples in batches if necessary. Transfer the grated apples to a slow cooker and mix in brown sugar, salt, and a cinnamon stick.
  • Seal and cook on high heat for 4 hours.
  • Take out the cinnamon stick and set it aside. Use a food processor to blend the apple mixture (you may need to do this in batches) until it is smooth. Put the smooth mixture back into the slow cooker along with the reserved cinnamon stick.
  • Simmer on high heat, uncovered, for an additional 4 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Discard the cinnamon stick and let the mixture cool completely. Transfer the butter to jars, seal tightly, and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
