Slow cooker apple butter recipe perfect for canning and food gifts.
Ingredients:
  • 10 apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, or more to taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 8 half pint canning jars with lids and rings
Instructions:
  • Slow cook apples until they are extremely tender, for about 18 hours on Low setting.
  • Blend apples until smooth in a food processor, then return to the slow cooker. Mix in sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
  • Simmer on low heat until the mixture thickens, approximately 4 hours.
  • First, sterilize the jars and lids by placing them in boiling water for a minimum of 5 minutes. Afterward, fill the hot, sterilized jars with the apple butter, leaving 1/4 inch of space at the top. Use a knife or thin spatula to eliminate any air bubbles inside the jars. Then, wipe the jar rims with a damp paper towel to clear any food residue. Finally, seal the jars with lids and secure them with rings.
  • Position a rack in the bottom of a large stockpot and fill halfway with water. Once boiling, carefully lower jars into the water with a holder, ensuring a 2-inch gap between each jar. Add more boiling water if needed to reach at least 1 inch above the jar tops. Cover the pot, let it return to a rolling boil, and process for 10 minutes.
  • Carefully transfer the jars from the stockpot onto a cloth-covered or wood surface, spaced several inches apart, and allow them to cool. Once cooled, check the seal of each lid by gently pressing the top with a finger to ensure it is tight and doesn't move. Store in a cool, dark area.
