Creamy caramelized onion dip with a savory twist, perfect for parties. Inspired by store-bought onion dip but with a new, effortless homemade spin. Slow cooker caramelized onions mixed with cream cheese, mayo, herbs, and soy sauce. A flavorful crowd-pleaser that's sure to impress your guests.
Ingredients:
  • 8 cups thinly sliced sweet or yellow onions (about 3 lb)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 packages (8 oz each) cream cheese, softened and cubed
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley leaves
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme leaves
  • 2 cans (11 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Original French Bread
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
Instructions:
  • Prepare the slow cooker by spraying it with cooking spray. Combine onions, 2 tablespoons of melted butter, salt, and pepper in the slow cooker. Cover and cook on Low heat for 10 to 12 hours until the onions are very tender and browned.
  • After draining the mixture, add the onions back to the slow cooker and discard the liquid. Mix in cream cheese and soy sauce into the onion mixture in the slow cooker.
  • Cover and simmer on low heat for 15 minutes. Incorporate the mayonnaise, then garnish with parsley and thyme. Enjoy with some toasted bread slices.
  • Start by preparing the toasts at least 2 hours before serving. Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 15x10x1-inch pan. Bake the French bread loaves for 24 to 26 minutes until golden brown. Allow them to cool for at least 30 minutes, then slice each loaf into 0.5-inch slices. Brush both sides of the slices with 4 tablespoons of melted butter. Bake half of the slices at once on the pan for 15 to 20 minutes, flipping once, until they are crispy and deep golden brown.
