Prepare a savory ham with zesty fruit and chive topping for a stress-free and flavorful dinner party centerpiece.
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 cups cherry preserves
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 6- to 8-pound fully cooked bone-in ham
  • 1/2 cup dried currants
  • 2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives
Instructions:
  • Combine preserves, vinegar, mustard, and ginger in a 2-cup glass measuring cup. Put the ham in a 6-quart slow cooker, trimming if needed to fit. Brush the ham with approximately 1/4 cup of the preserves mixture, and refrigerate the rest while the ham cooks.
  • Slowly simmer the ham, covered, for 7 to 8 hours on the Low heat setting.
  • Microwave the remaining preserves mixture on High for 4 minutes until bubbling. Add currants and lemon peel, then microwave for about 3 more minutes until mixture starts to boil. Stir in chives and let it cool for 10 minutes.
  • Take the ham out of the cooker, slice it, and arrange it on a serving platter. Serve with the sauce on the side.
