Create a fusion of flavors from two beloved dishes for a hearty potluck favorite.
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 pounds bulk Italian sausage
  • 2 cups frozen stir-fry bell peppers and onions (from 1-pound bag), thawed
  • 1/2 cup chopped pepperoni
  • 1 can (15 oz) pizza sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 3 roma (plum) tomatoes, coarsely chopped (1 cup)
  • 18 sandwich buns
  • 1 1/4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (5 oz)
Instructions:
  • In a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat, sizzle the sausage for 9 to 11 minutes, stirring occasionally until it loses its pink color; then drain any excess fat.
  • Prepare the slow cooker by spraying it with cooking spray. Combine sausage, stir-fry vegetables, pepperoni, pizza sauce, and Italian seasoning in the cooker.
  • Slow cook covered on Low heat for 4 to 6 hours.
  • Incorporate the vibrant tomatoes. Fill buns generously with the flavorful sausage mixture and top with a sprinkle of cheese.
