Traditional South African milk tart: Rich eggy custard in cinnamon-sugar crust, baked creamy. Easy and delicious!
Ingredients:
  • cooking spray
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 cup cake flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 egg white
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon sugar
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and generously coat a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate with cooking spray.
  • Cream together the sugar and butter until smooth in a large bowl. Beat in the egg yolks until light and fluffy. Sift in the cake flour, baking powder, and salt, stirring until well-blended. Incorporate the milk and vanilla until fully combined.
  • Using an electric mixer, whip egg whites in a separate bowl until stiff peaks form. Gently fold them into the batter. Transfer the mixture into the prepared pie plate and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  • Bake at the initial temperature for 25 minutes. Lower the temperature and bake until the center is firm when gently shaken, for about 25 to 30 minutes more.
