Savory Southern sawmill gravy featuring Jimmy Dean® sausage, perfect for pouring over freshly baked biscuits.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (16 ounce) package Jimmy Dean® Premium Pork Regular Sausage
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 0.25 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.125 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chicken stock
  • 3.5 cups whole milk, or more as needed
  • salt and freshly cracked pepper to taste
  • 2 dashes hot pepper sauce
Instructions:
  • In a large skillet or heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat, cook the sausage, stirring with a spatula to break apart and cook until crispy, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Combine butter, fragrant onion powder, and savory garlic powder in the pan; stir until the butter is melted.
  • Sprinkle flour over the sausage and butter mixture, stirring until well combined. Cook over slightly reduced heat until thickened, for 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Deglaze the pan with chicken stock, ensuring to scrape up any flavorful browned bits. Simmer until the stock is absorbed and the mixture thickens, for 1 to 2 minutes. Then, stir in the milk until the gravy becomes hot and bubbly.
  • Season generously with salt and freshly cracked pepper. Add more milk to thin out gravy if needed.
