Try this flavorful, spiced maple apple cake made with Gold Medal® flour for a classic and delicious dessert.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups chopped peeled apples (3 medium)
  • 3 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons whipping cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon maple flavor
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to a toasty 350°F. Grease a 12-cup fluted tube cake pan generously with shortening and lightly dust with flour.
  • Toss apples with 2 tablespoons of flour in a medium bowl. Combine baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and remaining flour in another medium bowl. In a large bowl, beat brown sugar, oil, eggs, and vanilla with an electric mixer until mixed. Mix in flour mixture on low speed until blended. Stir in apples, then spoon batter into the pan.
  • Bake for 55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let it cool for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan onto a cooling rack. Cool completely, for about 1 hour.
  • Combine all glaze ingredients in a medium bowl until you have a smooth and thick consistency, then drizzle the glaze over the cake.
