Spicy shrimp Creole: Flavorful shrimp dish with zesty spices, perfect for parties.
Ingredients:
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cups julienne celery
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 4 cloves crushed garlic
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 bay leaf, crushed
  • 1 tablespoon hot pepper sauce
  • 2 pounds medium shrimp - peeled and deveined
Instructions:
  • In a Dutch oven over medium heat, sauté celery, onions, and garlic until onions are translucent and celery is slightly tender.
  • In a Dutch oven, combine sugar, flour, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, bay leaves, and hot sauce. Bring to a boil, then simmer on low heat.
  • Simmer the mixture for 30 minutes, giving it an occasional stir.
  • 15 minutes before serving, gently place the shrimp into the pot and mix thoroughly. Adjust the heat to medium-low if needed to keep the Creole simmering without scorching. Remember to remove the bay leaf halves before serving. Enjoy once the shrimp turns pink and is fully cooked.
