Spooky snake straws

Make-ahead Halloween treats for kids, ideal for spooky celebrations. Prep in advance and keep fresh in a sealed container.
Ingredients:
  • 1 x 350 g pack of ready-rolled puff pastry
  • flour for dusting
  • 1 free-range egg
  • 20 g mature Cheddar cheese
  • 3 tablespoons poppy seeds or sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon pumpkin seeds
Instructions:
  • - Preheat the oven to 200°C/400°F/gas 6 and line a 35cm x 25cm baking tray with baking paper. - Unroll puff pastry on a floured surface with the short edge facing you. - Brush beaten egg over the pastry. - Sprinkle grated cheese and poppy seeds on top. - Cut the pastry into 12 strips, twist each into spirals and place on the tray. - Shape ends of each strip into heads and tails, add pumpkin seeds for eyes and a tongue. - Create a few strips to look like slithering snakes. - Bake for 12 minutes until crispy and golden. - Serve with Roasted pumpkin houmous.
