Italian-style tomato stewed burgers - a mouthwatering twist on a classic favorite that will bring joy to every bite.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups sliced mushrooms
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, vertically sliced
  • 12 ounces lean ground beef
  • 4 ounces ground pork
  • 0.25 cup Italian-seasoned panko bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups marinara sauce (such as Classico® Tomato and Basil)
  • 0.5 cup red wine
  • 0.5 teaspoon white sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried basil
  • 0.25 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon water as needed
Instructions:
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté mushrooms, bell pepper, and onion in olive oil until tender, about 5 to 7 minutes. Set aside.
  • Combine the ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Shape the mixture into four delicious burger patties.
  • In a sizzling skillet, sear the burgers over medium-high heat for 4 minutes per side until beautifully browned. Transfer the juicy burgers to a plate and let them rest.
  • Lower the heat and toss in the garlic. Stir until it becomes aromatic, or about 30 seconds. Introduce marinara sauce, red wine, sugar, basil, and crushed red pepper flakes. Mix well. Return the burgers to the skillet, covering them in sauce. Let it simmer for approximately 15 minutes.
  • Stir in a splash of water if the sauce dries out. Uncover the skillet and return mushrooms, bell peppers, and onions. Heat through for 3 to 4 minutes.
