Buttermilk strawberry scones: Fresh strawberries, simple ingredients, perfect for teatime. Ready fast.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.75 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup chopped fresh strawberries
  • 0.33333334326744 cup chopped fresh basil
  • 2 tablespoons buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar, or as needed
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add butter and blend until mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Pour in 1 cup of buttermilk and mix until just combined. Gently fold in strawberries (and basil if desired).
  • Lightly sprinkle your work surface with flour. Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a 3/4-inch-thick circle. Cut each circle into 8 wedges. Arrange the wedges on the baking sheet, keeping them about 2 inches apart. Brush the scones with 2 tablespoons of buttermilk and sprinkle lightly with brown sugar.
  • Bake until beautifully golden in a preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
