Budget-friendly sweet potato dog treats with applesauce, eggs, and whole wheat flour - perfect for gifting.
Ingredients:
  • 1 sweet potato
  • 2.5 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.25 cup unsweetened applesauce
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) to create the perfect cooking environment.
  • Pierce sweet potato with a fork several times. Microwave on high until tender, approximately 6 minutes. Allow to cool before handling.
  • Cut the potato in half and scoop out the flesh into a bowl, discarding the skin. Mash the potato using a fork or potato masher. Transfer approximately 1 cup of the mashed potato to a large bowl, keeping any leftovers for later use.
  • Combine whole wheat flour, eggs, and applesauce with sweet potato in a bowl until a smooth dough forms.
  • Roll out dough on a generously floured surface to 1/2-inch thickness, then cut shapes with a cookie cutter or slice into strips using a pizza cutter. Place cookies on an ungreased baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 45 minutes until crispy. Allow to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
