Create a homemade sweet-and-sour sauce for your egg rolls that is easy, fresh, and delicious.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons orange zest, or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 0.125 teaspoon sriracha hot sauce
  • 0.125 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, blend water, brown sugar, vinegar, orange zest, soy sauce, ginger, cayenne pepper, sriracha sauce, white pepper, and cayenne pepper. Stir and cook until sugar dissolves, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Transfer 1/2 cup of sauce to a small bowl. Mix in cornstarch and whisk until smooth, allowing the orange zest to infuse.
  • Increase the heat under the saucepan until the sauce comes to a gentle boil for approximately 5 minutes. Add the cornstarch mixture to the sauce and stir intermittently until it thickens, which should take 3 to 5 minutes. Take the saucepan off the heat and allow it to cool slightly for about 3 minutes before serving.
