Create a delightful homemade plum liqueur by steeping ripe plums in vodka with sugar, orange peel, and vanilla for 21 days. Perfect for gifting or savoring, enjoy the infused plums after!
Ingredients:
  • 16 cups black or red plums, pitted and cut into eighths
  • 3.25 cups white sugar, divided
  • 3 cups 100 proof vodka
  • 1.5 tablespoons vanilla extract, divided
  • 1 orange peel in pieces, divided
Instructions:
  • In a large jar, tightly layer half of the plums at the bottom. Pour half of the sugar over the plums, followed by half of the vodka. Sprinkle half of the vanilla extract and place half of the orange peel pieces in the jar. Add the remaining plums, pressing them down, and top with the rest of the sugar, vodka, vanilla extract, and orange peel. Seal the jar with the lid.
  • Seal the jar lid with a layer of melted wax from an unscented candle to avoid leaks. Wrap the jar in a dark towel and lay it sideways in a cool, dark area. Rotate the jar daily for 21 days, changing the towel regularly to block out light.
  • After 21 days, strain the plum liqueur through a fine strainer lined with cheesecloth and bottle it in beautiful containers with secure caps.
