Transport your taste buds with this authentic Asian beef dish.
Ingredients:
  • 131.25 gm soy sauce
  • 62.50 ml mirin
  • 53.75 gm caster sugar
  • 28.60 gm honey
  • 20.00 ml sesame oil
  • 2 tsp finely grated ginger
  • 1 garlic clove, thinly sliced
  • 800g beef rump steak
  • 18.40 gm rice bran oil
  • Cooked Japanese Style Sushi Rice, to serve
  • Thinly sliced green onion, to serve
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan over medium-high heat, combine soy sauce, mirin, sugar, honey, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature before using.
  • Transfer the flavorful soy sauce mixture to a spacious ceramic dish. Place the steak in the dish and ensure it is evenly coated by turning it over. Cover the dish and let it marinate in the refrigerator for 3 hours.
  • Drain the beef, saving the marinade. Heat rice bran oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Sear the steak for 3 to 4 minutes on each side (for medium doneness) or until desired doneness. Place the steak on a plate, loosely cover with foil, and let it rest for 5 minutes. Add the reserved marinade to the pan, bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Simmer uncovered for 2 to 3 minutes until slightly reduced.
  • Slice the steak thinly and arrange it with rice, green onion, and a generous drizzle of sauce for a delicious presentation.
