Butter-based pastry crust for delicious tarts and pies, no shortening needed.
Ingredients:
  • 2.25 cups sifted all-purpose flour, or more as needed
  • 14 tablespoons butter
  • 0.25 cup chilled water, or more as needed
Instructions:
  • Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Use a pastry blender to cut in the butter until the mixture looks like fine cornmeal. Gradually add water and knead the dough until it forms a firm ball.
  • Adjust dough consistency by incorporating more water if dry or more flour if wet. Divide dough into two equal portions. Roll each portion into rounds on a floured surface to desired thickness using a floured rolling pin.
  • Place one round of pie crust into a 9-inch pie pan, using the second round for the top or another bottom crust. Bake as directed for the filling.
