Win your sweetheart's heart with these adorable heart-shaped cookies.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 2 1/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 6 drops red food color
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons milk or half-and-half
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer on medium speed to blend 1 cup of powdered sugar, butter, and vinegar until smooth. Stir in all remaining cookie ingredients except food color. Divide the dough in half and add food coloring to one portion. If the dough is too dry, gently incorporate milk, 1 teaspoon at a time.
  • Roll the dough out to 1/8 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Use a variety of cookie cutters to cut out heart shapes. Stack smaller hearts onto larger hearts of different colored dough if desired. Then, place the shapes on an ungreased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 5 to 7 minutes until just set. Let cool for 1 to 2 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack. Allow to cool completely for about 30 minutes.
  • Combine all frosting ingredients in a medium bowl, mixing until smooth and easily spreadable. Add food coloring for a pop of color, if preferred. Generously spread the frosting onto the cookies.
