30-Minute Cheesy Gnocchi Bake: Crowd-pleasing and irresistible!
Ingredients:
  • 50g butter
  • 50g (1/3 cup) plain flour
  • 625ml (2 1/2 cups) milk
  • 80g (1 cup) coarsely grated vintage cheddar
  • 55g (1/2 cup) coarsely grated gruyere
  • 40g (1/2 cup) finely grated parmesan
  • 2 x 500g packets fresh wholemeal gnocchi
  • 90g (1 1/4 cups) day-old coarse sourdough breadcrumbs
  • 20.00 ml fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 small garlic clove, crushed
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven grill on high and lightly grease a 12-cup baking dish with butter.
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, sizzle the butter until it foams. Cook the flour for 2 minutes until it turns golden, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Gradually whisk in the milk until a smooth mixture forms. Heat over medium heat until thickened. Fold in cheddar, gruyere, and 2 tablespoons parmesan. Season to taste.
  • Boil gnocchi in a large saucepan of salted water according to packet instructions until al dente. Drain and return to the pan. Mix in the bechamel sauce, then transfer to the prepared dish.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and the rest of the Parmesan. In another bowl, mix together the oil, thyme, and garlic. Pour this mixture over the breadcrumbs and stir well. Sprinkle the mixture over the gnocchi and grill for 3-4 minutes until it is crispy and golden.
