Elevated Rice Krispie treats with caramel, roasted marshmallows, and brown butter for a richer, nuttier flavor twist on a classic favorite.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 8 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 6.5 cups crispy rice cereal (such as Rice Krispies®)
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) for a perfect bake.
  • Evenly spread the crispy rice cereal on a large sheet pan. Bake for 3 to 5 minutes until lightly toasted. Switch the oven setting to broil after removing the pan.
  • Prepare a large baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper and lightly greasing it. Evenly spread mini marshmallows on the sheet. Place the baking sheet in the oven and broil the marshmallows until they are puffed up and lightly toasted, taking care not to burn them, for approximately 2 minutes.
  • Melt butter in a large light-colored pot on medium heat, stirring constantly. Keep stirring until the butter turns golden brown and smells nutty, about 5 to 8 minutes.
  • Reduce the heat to low and stir in the marshmallows until the mixture is smooth. Take the pot off the heat and gently mix in the toasted cereal until evenly coated.
  • Grease a 9x13 baking dish with a thin layer. Press the mixture evenly into the dish using a buttered spatula or wax paper. Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes, then cut into squares before serving.
