Zesty green salsa with a kick from serrano chiles and a hint of tangy tomatillos.
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 lb fresh tomatillos, husks removed
  • 2 to 3 serrano chiles, seeded
  • 2 large cloves garlic, peeled
  • 1/2 medium white onion, coarsely chopped
  • 1/4 cup coarsely chopped fresh cilantro
  • 3/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon chicken bouillon granules
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Tortilla chips, as desired
Instructions:
  • Place the tomatillos in a 3-quart saucepan and cover them with cold water. Simmer over medium heat for 10 to 15 minutes until tender. Then, drain off the water.
  • Blend tomatillos and all other ingredients in a blender until smooth, excluding oil and tortilla chips. Cover until you reach your preferred consistency.
  • Heat oil in a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat. Add the tomatillo mixture and stir constantly for 10 to 15 minutes until the mixture is heated through and deepens in color. Enjoy warm or cold with tortilla chips.
