Vegan South Indian Rasam: aromatic, spiced soup enjoyed anytime, pairs perfectly with curry or omelet. An essential dish in every home.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 0.25 teaspoon black mustard seed
  • 5 fresh curry leaves
  • 1 large tomato, diced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seed, freshly ground
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 pinches ground dried turmeric
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 teaspoons tamarind paste
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
Instructions:
  • In a large saucepan over medium heat, heat the oil. Add mustard seeds. Once they begin to sizzle, toss in curry leaves and tomato. Season with cumin, black pepper, red pepper flakes, turmeric, and garlic. Pour water and bring to a boil. Stir in tamarind paste to taste, season with salt, and simmer for 2 minutes.
  • Serve the dish in bowls, topping it with fresh cilantro for a burst of flavor. Enjoy it either as a comforting soup or pair it with fluffy rice for a satisfying meal.
