Create homemade limoncello: steep lemon zest in high-proof alcohol for a week, then blend with simple syrup. Authentic Italian delight!
Ingredients:
  • 10 lemons
  • 1 quart 95% alcohol (190 proof)
  • 6 cups water
  • 4 cups white sugar
Instructions:
  • Grate the lemons for their flavorful zest, being careful to only remove the bright outer layer of the skin and leaving the bitter white pith behind.
  • In a glass bowl, combine lemon zest with alcohol and cover it. Let the mixture infuse at room temperature until it turns a lovely yellow hue, approximately 7 days.
  • In a saucepan, combine water and sugar and bring to a boil while stirring until sugar is fully dissolved. Remove the syrup from the heat and allow it to cool for approximately 10 minutes.
  • Strain the alcohol into the syrup using a fine-mesh strainer to remove the lemon zest. Stir thoroughly.
  • Transfer the limoncello into sturdy, freezer-safe glass bottles. Allow it to chill in the freezer for a minimum of 2 weeks before enjoying.
