Delicious Turkish gozleme filled with spinach, onion, and Parmesan cheese, effortlessly made with a bread machine. Perfect for snacking or a flavorful side dish.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 teaspoon butter-flavored shortening
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 2.3333332538605 cups bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 0.5 medium onion, chopped
  • 1.5 cups frozen chopped spinach - thawed, drained, and squeezed dry
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 6 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, or as needed
Instructions:
  • Add lukewarm water, shortening, salt, sugar, bread flour, and yeast into the bread machine in the order given. Select the Dough cycle and let it run for 20 minutes. Remove the dough from the machine after kneading.
  • Divide the dough into 5 pieces and shape them into balls. Place them on a floured surface, cover with a damp cloth, and let rest for 20-30 minutes.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt oil and butter for the filling. Add onion and salt, cook while stirring until onions soften, about 10 minutes. Stir in spinach and garlic, cook for an additional 3 to 5 minutes, then remove from heat.
  • Shape the dough circles into 5 to 6-inch flat rounds. Divide the spinach mixture evenly onto one half of each round, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, and fold the other half over, pressing the edges to seal.
  • Heat up a griddle or large frying pan over medium-high heat. Brush one side of each gozleme with oil and place them on the hot pan; cook until the base is golden for 2 to 3 minutes. Brush the top side with olive oil, flip, and cook until golden for another 2 to 3 minutes.
