Tuscan Sausage Ragu

Slow-cooked, hearty meat sauce perfect for any pasta.
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound bulk sweet Italian sausage
  • 1 pound bulk hot Italian sausage
  • 1 large red onion, diced
  • 2 ribs celery, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 0.5 cup dry red wine
  • 1 (28 ounce) can Italian-style diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 (28 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • salt to taste
  • 1 cup heavy cream
Instructions:
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Brown sweet and hot Italian sausage for about 10 minutes, breaking it up into crumbles as it cooks. Add onion, celery, and garlic, cook until onion is translucent, about 8 minutes. Transfer mixture to slow cooker. Deglaze skillet with red wine, scraping up flavorful bits. Pour wine into slow cooker. Add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and salt, mix well.
  • Cover the slow cooker, set on Low, and let it cook for 5 hours. Add cream, stir well, cover, and cook for an additional hour. Adjust salt to taste, then serve.
