Indulgent patty melts with gooey cheeses, crispy bacon bits, and a savory special sauce. Ideal for a delicious treat.
Ingredients:
  • 6 slices rye bread
  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 0.75 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon sea salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon real bacon bits
  • 1 teaspoon sweet relish
  • 6 slices Cheddar cheese
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
Instructions:
  • Spread a generous amount of butter on one side of each bread slice; set aside.
  • Combine ground beef, pepper, salt, and onion powder in a bowl until evenly mixed, being careful not to overwork the meat. Shape mixture into 3 patties to match the size of the bread.
  • 1. Preheat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, ensuring they don't break, until browned. Lower heat to low and continue cooking for about 5 minutes until no longer pink in the middle. Use a thermometer to confirm the temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  • As the burgers cook, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, bacon bits, relish, and sugar in a small bowl to create the sauce. Stir until well combined.
  • In a large skillet over medium-low heat, add a slice of bread with the buttered side down. Layer on 2 slices of Cheddar cheese, a cooked patty, and 2 slices of provolone cheese. Spread a thin layer of sauce on the second slice of bread and place it on top of the provolone with the sauce side down. Repeat to make more patty melts, working in batches if needed.
  • Toast bread until golden brown and cheese is gooey, about 2 to 3 minutes per side.
