Deliciously smooth vanilla sauce perfect for drizzling over desserts like berries, brownies, and apple pie.
Ingredients:
  • 2.5 cups whole milk, divided
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch, or more as desired
  • 0.33333334326744 cup white sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
  • Gently warm 2 cups of milk in a saucepan over low heat until it simmers, approximately 5 minutes.
  • Combine 1/2 cup of milk with cornstarch in a bowl, whisk until dissolved. Add sugar and egg yolks, beat until smooth. Slowly pour this mixture into simmering milk while whisking gently. Cook until thickened for about 3 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract, and enjoy.
  • Strain the sauce through a wire mesh sieve into a bowl to eliminate any cornstarch lumps. Cover the sauce with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming. Let it cool to room temperature for around 20 minutes.
  • Chill the sauce in the refrigerator until completely cold, for at least 30 minutes.
