Make a stunning plant-based dessert with a luscious dairy-free chocolate frosting for any celebration.
Ingredients:
  • 250g Flora Plant Original spread
  • 660g caster sugar
  • 35g cocoa powder
  • 2.50 gm bicarbonate of soda
  • 405g self-raising flour
  • 300g apple sauce
  • 50g psyllium husks
  • Mixed berries, to serve
  • 150g Flora Plant Original spread
  • 300g icing sugar mixture
  • 50g cocoa powder
  • 20.00 ml vanilla bean paste
  • 30.90 gm dairy-free milk (such as oat milk)
Instructions:
  • In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine Flora Plant Original, sugar, cocoa powder, bicarbonate of soda, and 2 cups (500ml) water. Stir and cook for 5 minutes until the sugar dissolves. Increase the heat to high and bring to a boil. Allow it to cool for 20 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 180°C and generously grease two 20cm round cake pans. Line the bases and sides with baking paper for easy removal later.
  • Combine flour, apple sauce, and psyllium husk into the chocolate mixture in the saucepan. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans. Bake for 1 hour or until a skewer inserted in the centers comes out clean. Allow to cool in pans for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Using an electric mixer, whip Flora Plant Original in a bowl until creamy. Gradually add icing sugar and cocoa powder in increments, beating thoroughly after each addition. Incorporate vanilla and milk until the frosting is smooth.
  • First, elegantly place a cake on a beautiful serving plate. Delicately spread the top of the cake with half a cup of frosting. Gently position the second cake on top. Skillfully cover the top and sides of the entire cake with the remaining frosting. Finally, artistically decorate with an array of fresh, vibrant berries.
