Family-friendly Australian classic recipe.
Ingredients:
  • 10.00 gm caster sugar
  • 1.20 gm sea salt
  • 257.50 gm milk
  • 20.00 ml Vegemite
  • 750.00 ml plain bread flour
  • 7g sachet dry yeast
  • 18.20 gm extra virgin olive oil
  • 250.00 ml grated cheddar
Instructions:
  • Combine sugar, salt, milk, and Vegemite in a small saucepan and whisk until well combined. Heat mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly for about 1 minute until lukewarm (avoid simmering or boiling).
  • In a large bowl, combine flour and yeast. Add the milk mixture and oil, then mix until a soft dough forms. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface, and knead for 10 to 15 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a large, lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Gently deflate the dough with your fist, then incorporate half of the cheddar. Knead until smooth, then divide the dough into 16 equal portions and shape them into balls.
  • Grease a 23cm springform cake pan. Place dough balls in the pan and cover with greased plastic wrap. Let dough rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour until nearly doubled in size.
  • Preheat the oven to 200C/180C fan-forced. Sprinkle the remaining cheddar over the loaf and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding when tapped at the center. Serve warm or at room temperature with butter.
