Total Time:
Caramelized apple slices nestled in a flaky pastry crust, topped with creamy buttermilk custard and a buttery cinnamon streusel. Bake to golden perfection.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (9 inch) pie shell
  • 0.25 cup butter
  • 2 tart apples - peeled, cored and sliced
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 cup butter, softened
  • 1.3333200216293 cups white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup buttermilk
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 0.25 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C) for a perfect bake.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1/4 cup of butter or margarine. Stir in apple slices, 1/2 cup of white sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes until the apples are tender. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1/4 cup of softened butter or margarine with 1 1/3 cups of white sugar until creamy. Beat in eggs one at a time until yellow disappears. Stir in vanilla and 2 tablespoons of flour. Gently mix in the buttermilk until smooth.
  • Gently press pastry into pie pan and prick it with a fork all over. Fill crust with apple mixture, then generously pour buttermilk custard on top.
  • Bake in a hot oven for 30 minutes.
  • Make a delightful streusel topping by mixing 1/4 cup white sugar, brown sugar, 1/2 cup flour, and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon in a small bowl. Add 3 tablespoons butter or margarine and blend until crumbly while the pie is baking.
  • After baking the pie for 30 minutes, generously sprinkle the delectable streusel topping over the creamy custard. Place the pie back in the oven and bake for another 40 to 50 minutes until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow it to cool for 1 hour before serving to enhance the flavors.
