Total Time:
Decadent chocolate sheet cake with warm icing poured over it for maximum deliciousness!
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1.5 cups white sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) while giving your 9x13 inch pan a buttery embrace with a dusting of flour.
  • Combine flour, salt, baking soda, and cocoa by sifting together, then set aside. Cream together 1 cup of butter and 1 1/2 cups of sugar in a large bowl until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix 1 cup of buttermilk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla and add alternately with the dry ingredients to the mixture. Pour into the prepared pan.
  • While the cake bakes in the preheated oven for around 45 minutes, whip up the topping.
  • In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, combine 1 cup buttermilk, 2 cups sugar, and margarine. Boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, cool slightly, and stir in vanilla. Pour the hot topping over the cake as soon as it comes out of the oven. The cake will absorb it perfectly.
