Whip up flavorful falafel patties in no time using soaked chickpeas, a food processor, and an air fryer.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup dry garbanzo beans
  • 1.5 cups fresh cilantro, stems removed
  • 0.75 cup fresh flat-leafed parsley, stems removed
  • 1 small red onion, quartered
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 tablespoons chickpea flour
  • 1 tablespoon ground coriander
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon baking soda
  • cooking spray
Instructions:
  • Place chickpeas in a generous amount of cool water and let them soak for 24 hours. Gently rub the chickpeas between your fingers to remove the skins. Rinse thoroughly and spread on a clean dish towel to dry.
  • In a food processor, combine chickpeas, cilantro, parsley, onion, and garlic until a coarse paste forms. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl, then add chickpea flour, coriander, cumin, Sriracha, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly, cover the bowl, and allow the mixture to rest for 1 hour.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  • Combine baking powder and baking soda with the chickpea mixture, using your hands to mix until just combined. Shape the mixture into 15 equal-sized balls and gently press to form patties. Lightly spray the falafel patties with cooking spray.
  • Cook 7 falafel patties in the preheated air fryer for 10 minutes until golden brown. Transfer to a plate and repeat with the remaining 8 falafel, cooking for 10 to 12 minutes until crispy.
