Crispy air-fried mozzarella sticks: a healthier twist on the classic gooey favorite.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 5 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon parsley flakes
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.25 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour, or as needed
  • 5 ounces mozzarella cheese, cut into 1/2-inch strips
  • cooking spray
Instructions:
  • Create the batter by combining water, flour, cornstarch, cornmeal, garlic powder, and salt in a shallow bowl. Mix until the batter is thick like pancake batter, adjusting the ingredients as necessary to achieve the desired consistency.
  • Prepare the coating by combining panko, salt, pepper, parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and basil in one shallow bowl, and place flour in another bowl.
  • Coat each mozzarella stick in flour, batter, and panko mixture. Arrange on a baking sheet in a single layer and freeze for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) following the manufacturer's guidelines.
  • Add a line of mozzarella sticks to the fryer basket, giving them a light spritz of cooking spray before sealing the lid.
  • Place the sticks in the preheated air fryer for 6 minutes. After that, simply flip them using tongs, then let them cook until they turn a beautiful golden brown, which should take about 7 to 9 more minutes.
