Cheesy noodle casserole with rich tomato beef sauce, inspired by Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed tomato soup
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 0.125 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 1 (12 ounce) package wide egg noodles
  • 10 slices American cheese
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • 1. Boil a pot of lightly salted water. Cook egg noodles for approximately 7 minutes until tender. Drain and return to the pot. Stir in cream of chicken soup until noodles are evenly coated.
  • 1. Crumble the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat, then drain excess grease. Stir in tomato soup, brown sugar, pepper, and salt. Spread half of the beef in a greased 2 1/2 quart casserole dish. Layer 5 slices of cheese over the beef, then top with half of the noodles. Repeat layers, finishing with cheese on top.
  • Place in a preheated oven and bake for 35 minutes, until the cheese is golden brown and the sauce is bubbling.
