Licorice-flavored treats, can be stored for over a month in an airtight container.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 4 eggs
  • 4.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.75 teaspoon salt
  • 0.33333298563957 cup brandy
  • 1.5 teaspoons anise extract
  • 1 cup almonds
  • 2 tablespoons anise seed
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and prepare 2 cookie sheets lined with parchment paper or foil.
  • Start by combining sugar and butter in a large mixing bowl and beat until they are light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, making sure to beat well after each addition. Mix brandy, anise extract, and vanilla in a small bowl or measuring cup. In a separate medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Alternately add the dry ingredients and the brandy mixture to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Finally, stir in the almonds and aniseed.
  • Using a spoon, place dough onto baking sheet to create two 2 x 13-inch long strips on each sheet. Gently shape dough into logs using dampened fingertips.
  • Bake for around 30 to 35 minutes until beautifully golden and firm to the touch. Let the cookie sheets cool on racks. Then, reduce the oven temperature to 300 degrees F.
  • Slice the cooled logs diagonally into 3/4-inch thick pieces using a serrated knife, then arrange them on cookie sheets.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until crispy and golden brown. Transfer to a cooling rack to cool.
