Middle Eastern anise seed cookie rings: crispy, sweet teatime delight.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon anise seeds
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 tablespoon fennel seeds
  • 1 cup corn oil
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons sesame seeds, or as needed
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare 2 baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper.
  • Combine the flour, anise seeds, baking powder, fennel seeds, and baking soda in a medium bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, combine oil, sugar, eggs, and vinegar, whisking until well blended. Pour the mixture over the flour and combine until a dough forms. Divide the dough into small pieces and roll them into short ropes, then join the ends to create rings.
  • Place the cookie rings neatly on the baking sheets, then generously sprinkle sesame seeds over them.
  • Bake until golden brown, about 15 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven.
