Total Time:
Mexican-inspired sugar cookies with anise, orange juice, and a sweet cinnamon sugar coating.
Ingredients:
  • 2.5 cups shortening
  • 1 teaspoon anise seed, ground
  • 6 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 0.5 tablespoon cream of tartar
  • 0.25 cup orange juice
  • 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) for the perfect bake.
  • Cream shortening until it is fluffy. Mix in one cup of sugar and anise seed until creamy. Blend in eggs thoroughly, then add flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, salt, and orange juice, mixing well.
  • Smooth the dough by kneading. Roll it onto a floured surface until 1/2 inch thick. Cut into various shapes with a cookie cutter. Bake until lightly browned for 5-8 minutes. While still warm, coat cookies in a blend of 1 cup sugar and 3 tablespoons of cinnamon.
