Whip up a delicious apple-infused BBQ sauce for a crowd or stock up your pantry for future meals.
Ingredients:
  • 8 cups applesauce
  • 6 cups brown sugar
  • 4 cups tomato sauce
  • 1.5 cups apple cider vinegar
  • 4 teaspoons salt
  • 4 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons liquid smoke flavoring
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 7 1-pint canning jars with lids and rings
Instructions:
  • Combine applesauce, brown sugar, tomato sauce, vinegar, salt, garlic powder, cinnamon, liquid smoke, chili powder, paprika, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and cloves in a large pot. Bring to a boil, then simmer over low heat until thickened, for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
  • Place the jars and lids in boiling water for a minimum of 5 minutes to sterilize.
  • Carefully transfer the sauce into clean, sterilized jars, leaving 1/4 inch of space at the top. Gently run a knife or thin spatula along the sides of the jars to eliminate any air bubbles. Use a damp paper towel to wipe the rims clean. Seal the jars with lids and tighten the rings securely.
  • Fill a large stockpot halfway with water and place a rack inside. Bring to a boil. Using a jar holder, carefully lower jars into the boiling water, leaving a 2-inch space between them. Add more boiling water if needed to ensure the jars are covered by at least 1 inch of water. Cover the pot, bring to a rolling boil, and process for 20 minutes.
  • Remove the jars from the stockpot and place on a cloth-covered or wood surface, a few inches apart to cool. Press the top of each lid with a finger to ensure a tight seal (lid doesn't move). Store in a cool, dark area.
