Wholesome apple crisp made effortlessly in cast iron, with unpeeled apples and rye flour for a rustic and healthy twist.
Ingredients:
  • 1 serving cooking spray
  • 4 medium unpeeled apples, cored and thinly sliced
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup rye flour
  • 3 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/4-inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 cup milk

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) while gently spraying an 8- or 9-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
  • Combine fresh, juicy apples, sweet sugar, a sprinkle of 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, a dash of tangy lemon juice, and a hint of aromatic cinnamon in a bowl. Transfer the delicious mixture into the baking pan.
  • In a bowl, mix together 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, rye flour, butter, brown sugar, salt, and nutmeg until the butter is evenly distributed. Add milk and combine. Press the mixture over the apples in the baking pan.
