Delicious apple pie bars with flaky crust and sweet cinnamon apples, easy to enjoy on-the-go.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 9 apple - peeled, cored and sliced
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1.5 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons milk
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan.
  • Combine flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and salt in a bowl. Add shortening and mix until mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Stir in egg yolks and 1/2 cup of milk until well combined.
  • Roll out half of the dough on a floured surface to match the pan size. Line the pan with the dough, brush with egg white, then add sliced apples, sugar, and cinnamon. Roll out the rest of the dough and place it on top of the apples. Finally, brush the top with egg white.
  • Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in a preheated oven until the crust turns golden. Mix confectioners' sugar, salt, vanilla, and milk in a small bowl until smooth. Drizzle over cooled bars and cut into squares.
