Homemade apple pie slices with a flaky crust - a perfect fall treat for the family.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.66666668653488 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 6 apples - peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2-inch thick slices, or more to taste
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Combine 2 cups of flour and salt in a bowl. Use a pastry blender or fork to cut the butter into the mixture until crumbly.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together water, eggs, and lemon juice. Stir this mixture into the flour until a dough forms. Divide the dough in half and roll each half into a 9x13-inch rectangle. Press one rectangle into the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, mix apple slices with sugar, 3 tablespoons of flour, and cinnamon until apples are coated. Spread the mixture over the crust. Cover the apple filling with the remaining crust, patching any holes with extra dough. Make several slits in the top crust for ventilation during baking.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour until the edges are golden brown and crispy. Allow to cool to room temperature for about 30 minutes before cutting into squares.
