Delicious apple bars with walnuts, fresh apple chunks, cinnamon sugar topping, and a golden brown finish.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2.25 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.5 cup chopped apple
  • 0.5 cup finely chopped walnuts
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch square pan.
  • Sift flour, baking powder, salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon into a medium bowl. In a small bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of white sugar and the remaining 2 teaspoons of cinnamon.
  • In a large bowl, combine brown sugar, 1/2 cup white sugar, and melted butter until smooth. Add egg and vanilla, then blend in flour mixture. Gently fold in apple and walnuts. Spread mixture evenly in the pan and sprinkle cinnamon-sugar on top.
  • Bake until the top springs back when lightly pressed, for 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven. Cool completely in the pan before cutting into 16 squares.
