Indulge in a decadent baked fruit dessert featuring apples, nuts, oats, and a luscious caramel topping.
Ingredients:
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans
  • 3 cups chopped unpeeled apples (2 medium)
  • 3/4 cup caramel topping
  • 1/4 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • Vanilla or cinnamon ice cream, if desired
  • Additional caramel topping, if desired
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 13x9-inch pan with shortening. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer on medium speed to combine butter and brown sugar until mixed. Add 1 cup of flour, oats, cinnamon, baking soda, and pecans, mixing until crumbly. Press half of the mixture into the pan to create a crust, saving the rest for topping.
  • Arrange the apples evenly on top of the crust in the pan. In a 1-quart saucepan, bring 3/4 cup of caramel topping and 1/4 cup of flour to a boil, stirring continuously. Boil for approximately 1 minute until slightly thickened. Pour the mixture over the apples, then sprinkle the reserved crumbly mixture on top.
  • Bake until the top is golden brown, for about 35 to 45 minutes. Let it cool for 30 minutes, then serve topped with ice cream and extra caramel.
