Create a scrumptious apple, cranberry, and nut strudel with Progresso® Bread Crumbs for a perfect guest-pleasing dessert.
Ingredients:
  • 2 apples, chopped (about 2 cups)
  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 8 (17x12-inch) sheets frozen phyllo (filo) pastry, thawed
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 4 tablespoons Progresso™ Plain Bread Crumbs
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a 15x10x1-inch baking pan. Mix apples, cranberries, sugar, walnuts, lemon peel, and lemon juice in a medium bowl, ensuring everything is evenly coated.
  • Lay out phyllo sheets and cover with plastic wrap or towel. Start with 1 sheet on a piece of plastic wrap. Brush each sheet with butter and sprinkle 1 tablespoon of bread crumbs. Continue layering, alternating between buttered sheets and sheets with bread crumbs. End with a buttered sheet on top.
  • Spread the apple mixture onto the phyllo stack, leaving a 2-inch border, then gently press down. Fold the shorter sides of the phyllo over the filling. Roll up the phyllo like a jelly roll, starting from the longer side, using plastic wrap for support. Place the roll seam side down in a greased pan. Make a few crosswise cuts on top and brush with any leftover butter.
  • Bake at 375°F until golden brown, about 20 to 25 minutes. Cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
